How To Overcome Creative Block

by | Apr 29, 2022 | 0 comments

Creative blocks, or barriers to inspiration, can be described as the inability to access one’s internal creativity. Those in creative professions—writers, musicians, performers, artists—are often more likely to be affected by creative blocks, which can last for days, weeks, months, or even years. Creativity can get tricky–sometimes. All of the big artists have most likely gone through a creative block which they have often talked about. So don’t worry, you’re not the only one.

Here are a few ways to help you out with your Creative Block:

Take a Break!

  1. Try to distance yourself from the project; take a break and come back to it with a clear head.  Go and do something else entirely.
  2. You’d be amazed at where new ideas are hiding out. They’re often where you would least expect them to be.
  3.  Meditation can help you clear your mind and refocus your energy so that you can absorb new ideas and perspectives that aren’t apparent before.
  4. Also, don’t forget to get enough sleep!

“Strange things happen in a semi-sleep state when your unconscious takes over,” says Shotopop’s Casper Franken. “Wake up and write down whatever was happening before you forget it.”

Try to find your inspiration

  1. Read as much as you can. It is often said, when you can’t think enough, read. When you are thinking too much, write.
  2. Inspiration is everywhere. Creative block can be a great excuse to get yourself outdoors and explore. Look around you and try to observe things. (PRO TIP: Never forget your sketchbook, you never know what inspires you)
  3. Try to find more content around your niche, try purposeful scrolling.
  4. Creativity is about interconnections between concepts that you’ve acquired throughout your life. The more information your brain receives, the more connections it will establish. The wider your understanding is, the more great ideas you’ll have.
  5. Try to find and collaborate with someone with a similar niche.

Try to envision your productive and creative flow

  1. The first question you should ask is, “Why are you having the block?” Determine the issue. Is it because you’re not in the right frame of mind, or because something else is distracting you?
  2. There are numerous reasons why you are unfocused and unable to be creative. People are usually dealing with personal issues, such as a relative’s poor health, an argument with a close friend, or a pandemic that threatens our future.
  3. We can’t stop problems from happening. They will always be there, and there will always be new ones. So it’s not a matter of solving them to be creative; rather, it’s a matter of identifying what’s affecting us and dealing with it. Even if the source of the problem is the creative block itself. Find a problem to the solution. Try journaling, or call a friend. You should never forget about your potential of Creating Content and believe that your creativity will come back to you, just let it flow.

Recreate your content:

To get the results you want, don’t be afraid to repurpose and reuse your content in new, exciting ways. Your creative block may be due to the pressure of creating content; removing that obstacle may be enough to overcome it.

And lastly, Don’t be too Hard on Yourself!

Coming up with fresh, new ideas for your content creation strategy is a challenge; take it easy on yourself. By allowing yourself some grace and evaluating your previous wins, you will take some stress off your shoulders and open yourself to new ideas.

Just Remember, Creative Blocks are temporary. You’ll always find your way back to creativity.
