Storytelling podcast is just a natural progression of a tradition as storytelling is the most common in many cultures. We tell stories to our friends over a few drinks, and to our parents after a long hectic day, the stories told by our grandparents and parents as bedtime stories are the most memorable ones. With the rise of podcasts specifically, storytelling podcasts, the verbal yarn is now omnipresent.
But what goes into the making of a storytelling podcast?
Curious about how one is made?
Let’s simplify the making of a story-telling podcast.
Concept.
The First step is to have an idea, which you stretch out in a story. Roughly sketch the story that has a start, mid and end. In this step, you can check if there are other similar podcasts and how you can improve yours.
Episode planning
Distribute the rough sketch of your story into the episodes. This will give you a vision of how your podcast will be. You can now decide which idea that seems useless can be taken out from any episode.
Format
Here you have the opportunity to shape your episodes. Decide your format whether it will be a documentary or a fictional story. Whether it will have only one or more than one voice.
Script
Start with your first draft. Decide on the characters, the events and the climax. After having the first draft, start editing: polishing every little detail, any missing events in the story and others.
Recording
Your favourite step that you have been looking for. The narration should not sound like it is being read. The narration should have the power to grip the audience with its storytelling. That’s the whole point of making a story-telling podcast.
Post-production
Now comes the editing, mixing and sound design. There might be some adjustments, or modifications needed to be done to the script or its flow.
You now have your first draft of the mix, you can hear it and check if it still needs any adjustments and work similarly on the other episodes of your podcast.
And there you have it, your first story-telling podcast. This is the basic flow of making a story-telling podcast but not necessarily the only way. On the way of actually making it is when you will find things either easy or difficult to tackle but you will eventually get the hang of it. The entire process might be lengthy but the efforts put in are worth it!
